PowerPacked DataType
version 39.1
© 1996 Szymon Pura
FREEWARE
1. INTRODUCTIOM
Starting with OS Release 3 the Amiga has the concept of `datatypes', which
allow reading and viewing files of different types and formats. PowerPacked
DataType allows reading files crunched with PowerPacker.
2. REQUIREMENTS
Kickstart 3.0+ is certainly needed for this, also powerpacker.library V35+
must be present.
3. INSTALLATION
It's really simple:
- copy the file "PowerPacked.datatype" to SYS:Classes/DataTypes/
- copy the file "PowerPacked Data" to DEVS:DataTypes/
- reboot the machine
** NOTE: PowerPacked DT stores some temporary data in your T: assign.
4. USAGE
You don't have to worry about that - BOOPSI-based DataTypes system will do
all the work for you.
How does PowerPacked DT work ?
a. Decrunch the file and store it in T: directory
b. Recognize its DataType
c. Use the correct DataType to load decrunched file
So, if you want to load crunched ILBMs, you need an ilbm.datatype, to load
crunched texts you need text.datatype and so on.
5. TODO
- XPK/XFD support
6. KNOWN BUGS
- PowerPacked DT is not able to recognize the type of the crunched file
(its dth_GroupID is set to GID_PICTURE).
